JOSEPH RIGG

Joseph Rigg was born 1836 in Michigan and died in 1879 and is buried in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Lucas County, Ohio.   Joseph married Emma J.  Chapman.  Emma was born on 26 January 1840 in Seneca, New York and died in 1904 and is buried in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Lucas County, Ohio.

 

Joseph served in the Civil War as a Minute Man for Washington Township, Wood County, Ohio.

 

Joseph and Emma had the following children:

 

1.  William Armetus Rigg was born 2 December 1858 in Monroe, Michigan.  He died 11 July 1934 in Weston Township, Wood County, Ohio.

2.  Hiram Edwin Rigg was born in 1861 in Monroe,  Michigan and died 10 September 1943 Wood County, Ohio. 

3.  Charles Ellsworth Rigg was born 26 February 1863 in Ohio and died 22 October 1917 in Grand Rapids, Wood County, Ohio.

4.  Sherman F. Rigg was born November 1866 and died 13 April 1927 and is buried at the Toledo Memorial Park, Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio.

5.  Alice M. Rigg was born 26 October 1864 and died 15 December 1945 and is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Lucas County, Ohio.

6.  Albert Oscar Rigg was born 26 February 1876/1877 and died 14 January 1938.

7.  Senya Rigg  was born about September 1868 and died 2 July 1872 and is buried in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Lucas County, Ohio.     Tombstone reads -  Aged 3 y 9 m 26 da - Also found a under Ohio Births and Christenings indexing batch C51346-4:  a  ?S______  Almena Rigg was born 6 September 1868 in Wood County, Ohio; parents Joseph and Emma Rigg.

8.  Curtis C. Rigg was born about September 1870 and died 2 July 1872 and is buried in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Lucas County, Ohio.  Tombstone reads -  Aged  1 y 10 m 0 da
9.  Cloa Rigg  was born about June 1874 and died 18 January 1875 and is buried in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Lucas County, Ohio. Tombstone reads -  Aged 6 m 24 da

1.  William Artemus Rigg was born 2 December 1858 in Monroe, Michigan.  He died 11 July 1934 in Weston Township, Wood County, Ohio and is buried in the Weston Cemetery, Weston, Wood County, Ohio.  William married Alice M. Heckathorn on 30 November 1882 in Wood County, Ohio.  Alice was born 15 March 1860 Hull Prairie, Wood County, Ohio and died in 1943 and is buried in the Weston Cemetery, Weston, Wood County, Ohio.  Alice's parents were David and Rebecca Cochran Heckathorn.

 

William and Alice had the following children:

a.  Earl Bert Rigg was born `14 March  1887 and died 21 January  1953.  Earl married Jennie McEntire on 25 November 1909.  Earl served in WWII.

b.  Ethel P. Rigg was born 12 December 1890 and died 16 June 1991.  Ethel married John Case and had a child LeRoy William Case born 19 January 1912 and he lived for only 4 days.

 

 

William A. Rigg's death certificate states that he was a carpenter for 45 years.  He passed away at the age of 75 years 7 months and 9 days old.

2.  Hiram Edwin Rigg was born 3 March 1861 Monroe, Michihgan and died September 10, 1943 and is buried in the Weston Cemetery, Weston, Wood County, Ohio.  William married Almira "Myra" Fancher, she was born in 1867 and died October 13, she is buried in the Weston Cemetery, Weston, Wood County, Ohio.

 

In the Toledo, Ohio Directories of the 1889-1891, it states the following:  Hiram E. Rigg worked for  J.A. Keefer, located N.S. Baxter 2 E. of Junction Avenue as a Clerk.

 

Hiram and Almira had the following child:

a.  Harry Theodore Rigg was born 11 December 1886 Waterville, Lucas County, Ohio  and died 12 February 1949 in  Mercy Hospital, Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio and is buried at the Fort Meigs Cemetery, Perrysburg, Wood County, Ohio.   Harry married Ruby McMillen, she was born 28 June 1886 in Bryan, Ohio and died 3 October 1918 during the Spanish Influenza Epidemic.  Ruby's parents were Elwood and Icedian "Ida"  J. Bard McMillen.

 

According to the 1930 Federal Census, Harry T. Rigg was a Public Accountant.

 

Harry and Ruby had one child:

   1.  Paul Harry Rigg he was born 4 June 1913 Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio and died 6 January 1993 at St Charles Hospital, Oregon, Lucas County, Ohio.  Paul was an automobile mechanic by trade.

 

Harry married for a second time to Louise Goodfleisch who was born 4 March 1892 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio and died 8 March 1978 in Maumee, Lucas County, Ohio and is buried at the Fort Meigs Cemetery, Perrysburg, Wood County, Ohio.  

 

Harry and Louise had the following two sons: 

   1. Richard Raymond Rigg "Dick" born 27 June 1922  in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio; died 18 November 2000 Perrysburg, Wood County, Ohio and is buried at New Belleville Ridge Cemetery, Dowling, Wood County, Ohio.  Richard "Dick" was a WWII Veteran (B-26 pilot), played professional (minor league) baseball and was a professional corporate pilot.  

   2. Warren Edwin Rigg born 27 June 1926 in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio and died 1 June 1988 in Maumee, Lucas County, Ohio and is buried at the Fort Meigs Cemetery, Perrysburg, Wood County, Ohio.

3.  Charles Ellsworth Rigg was born 26 February 1863 in Ohio died 22 October 1917 in Grand Rapids, Wood County, Ohio and is buried in the Weston Cemetery, Weston, Wood County, Ohio.   Charles married Fannie E. Huffman on 30 September 1886 in Wood County, Ohio.  Fannie was born 17 July 1865 in Washington Township, Wood County, Ohio; her parents were Henry and Christine (Sietz) HuffmanFannie died on the 9 September 1954 in Grand Rapids, Wood County, Ohio and is buried at the Weston Cemetery, Weston, Wood County, Ohio.

 

Charles Ellsworth Rigg was a farmer.

 

Charles and Fannie had the following children:

 

a.   Blanche I. Rigg was born 14 September 1887 in Washington Township, Wood County, Ohio and died 19 February 1968 at Flower Hospital, Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio.  Blanche married Harman/Harmon Hartman in Wood County, Ohio.  Harman/Harmon's parents were Gust and Nancy Long Hartman.

 

b.   Frank Joseph Rigg was born 18 March 1889 in Grand Rapids, Wood County, Ohio and died 12 September 1955 in Weston, Wood County, Ohio.  Frank married Ethel Croll in Wood County, Ohio.  Ethel was born in 1891 in Tontogany, Wood County, Ohio; her parents were John and Myrtle E. Cude Croll. 

Frank's WWII draft registration states he was living in Sandusky, Erie County, Ohio and was working for Holland Rieger Corporation.  Frank was a a general factory worker according to his death certificate.

Frank and Ethel's children were:

   1.   Emerson Franklin  Rigg was born 24 November 1915 in Tontogany, Wood County, Ohio and died July 1952 in Lee County, Florida.  Emerson married Martha Carter on 16 February 1936 in Steuben County, Indiana.   Martha was born on 24 July 1915 in Wapakoneta, Ohio.   Martha's parents were Edward and Ada Brentlinger Carter.  In 1940 Emerson and Martha lived in Dania, Broward County, Florida.

   2.   Harold Alvin Rigg was born 14 January 1919 in Tontogany, Wood County, Ohio and died 5 June 1919 in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio.  Harold was 4 months and 22 days old when he passed away.

 

4.  Sherman F. Rigg was born 2 November 1866 in Wood County, Ohio and he died on 13 April 1927 in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio and is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery, Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio.  Sherman married Iva E. Kocher in 1889, she was born 1873 in Ohio  (according to the 1900 census)

 

Sherman was a carpenter by trade.


According to the 1900 and 1910 Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio census' Sherman and Iva "Ivy" had the following children:

a.  Ray Edward Rigg was born in 3 May 1890 in Ohio and died 23 December 1962 in St. Charles Hospital, Oregon, Lucas County, Ohio.  Ray married Mabel M. Jaycox on 1 October 1909 in Essex, Windsor, Canada.   Mabel was born 20 April 1890 in Paulding, Ohio and died at the age of 88 on 9 February 1977 in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio.

  Newspaper Article from a Toledo, Ohio Newspaper  - RIGGS TO OBSERVE GOLDEN WEDDING -  Mr. and Mrs. Ray E. Rigg, 722 Main St., will observe their golden wedding anniversary tomorrow by taking a group of friends to dinner.  Mr. and Mrs. Rigg were married in Windsor, Ont.  Mr. Rigg, a carpenter, retired six years ago.  Both Mr. and Mrs. Rigg were active in Masonic and Eagles lodges until recent years.

Ray and Mabel had no children.


b.  Howard J. Rigg was born 1892 in Kentucky and and died 6 February 1932 in the O.S. & S Home Hospital, Perkins Township, Erie County, Ohio.  Howard J. Rigg served in the United States Army and was a carpenter by trade.

5.  Alice May Rigg was born 26 October 1864 in Wood County, Ohio and died 15 December 1945 in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio.  Alice married Cornelius "Neal" Hull on the 23 March 1884 in Wood County, Ohio. 

 Alice and Cornelius had the following children:

a.  Laura A. Hull was born October 1884.  Laura married Jacob C. Koch. Jacob's parents were Jacob C. and Hannah Baker Koch.

b.  William Henry Hull was born 5 January 1886 in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio and died 26 July 1930 in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio.  William was married to a lady named Belle according to his death certificate.

c.  Walter Flemming Hull was born 3 April 1888 in Auburndale, Lucas County, Ohio.  Walter married Harriett Klei on 11 April 1909 in Lucas County, Ohio.

d.  Alice Hull  was born December 1890.  Alice married Irving S. Benton on 30 May 1908 in Windsor, Essex, Ontario, Canada.

e.  Chester C. Hull was born 30 May 1894 in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio.  Chester married Florence Foist 16 June 1915.

f.   Arthur M. Hull was born November 1897.

g.  Mabel C. Hull born 5 July 1908 in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio.

6.  Albert Oscar Rigg was born 20 February 1876/1877 in Waterville Township, Lucas County, Ohio and died 14 January 1938 in Whitehouse, Lucas County, Ohio and he is buried in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Lucas County, Ohio.  Albert married  Caroline "Carrie" L. Winslow in 1902 in Lucas County, Ohio.  Caroline's parents were Henry and Jane Jones Winslow.

 

According to Albert's death certificate his occupation was a town marshal and deputy.

 

According to the 1920 Lucas County, Ohio cenus; Albert and Caroline had the following children:


a.   Wayne Henry Rigg was born 3 September 1902 in Whitehouse, Lucas County, Ohio and died 9 January 1960 in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio.  Wayne married Nina Chamberlain on 10 September 1923 in Adrian, Lenawee County, Michigan.  Nina's parents were Alva and Della Thompson Chamberlain.  Wayne and Nina  were living in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio in 1927 and his occupation was a welder.

On the 1940 Michigan Census, Wayne Henry Rigg is living with his family in  Ward 9, Detroit, Detroit City, Wayne County, Michigan on Charest Avenue.  He is a welder.

Wayne and Nina had the following children:

    1.  Baby Girl Rigg was born 18 March 1924 and died 18 March 1924 in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio.

    2.  Rebecca June Rigg was born about 1926 in Ohio.

    3.  Arline Eleanor Rigg was born about 1927 in Ohio.

    4.  Albert Wayne Rigg/Riggs was born about 1929 in Ohio.

    5.  Gared W. Rigg/Riggs was born about 1936 in White houseOhio.

    6.  Joseph R. Rigg/Riggs was born about 1939 in Michigan

    7.  David B. Rigg/Riggs was born about 1940 in Michigan

    8.  William Rigg/Riggs born in Michigan
