TRUMAN RIGG

Truman Rigg was born on 22 February 1845 in Ridgeville Corners, Henry County, Ohio.  He died 20 April 1901 in Grand Rapids, Wood County, Ohio and is buried in Beaver Creek Cemetery, Grand Rapids, Wood County, Ohio.

 

Truman married Angeline Hartman, daughter of Emmanuel Hartman and Leah Rhinehart , on 19 April 1880 in Wood County, Ohio.  Angeline was born 5 April 1854 in York County, Pennsylvania.  She died 13 May 1903 in Grand Rapids, Ohio and is buried in Beaver Creek Cemetery, Grand Rapids, Wood County, Ohio.

 

In 1900 Truman and his family lived in Washington Township, Wood County, Ohio - 8 children.  Truman was Private during the Civil War.  He served in the Ohio Company H,  21st Infantry Division.

 

Truman and Angeline had the following children: 

1.  Alma B. Rigg was born 5 May 1882 in Ohio.  She died 22 October 1911 in Grand Rapids, Washington County, Wood County, Ohio and was buried 24 October 1911 in Beaver Creek Cemetery, Ohio.

     Alma married Charles Meek.  They had the following child:

     a.  Rosa Agnes Meek was born 25 October 1904 in Grand Rapids, Ohio.  She died 20 April 1940 in Marion City Hospital, Marion County, Ohio and was buried 23 April 1940.

2. Elmer Rigg was born 4 April 1885 in Washington Township, Wood County, Ohio.

3. Floyd Ira Rigg was born 4 March 1891 and died 1 January 1952.

    He worked as a Landscape Gardener.

    His children were:

     a. Clifford Rigg.

4.  Esther Angeline Rigg was born 6 May 1895 in Washington Township, Wood County, Ohio.  She died 1 June 1971 in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio and was buried in Beaver Creek Cemetery, Grand Rapids, Ohio.

     Esther married Arthur E. Rothgeb on 18 February 1914 and had the following children:

      a.  Thelma L. Rothgeb was born 4 April 1918 in Grand Rapids, Washington Township, Wood County,       Ohio.

         **NEWSPAPER ARTICLE**  SENTINEL CORRESPONDENT THELMA ROTHGEB DIES
          GRAND RAPIDS, OHIO - Thelma Lucille Rothgeb 77, local historian and long-time news reporter was   found dead at her Kellogg Road home Thursday.  After graduating from Grand Rapids High School in 1936, Ms. Rothgeb became office manager for DiSalle Plating Co., Toledo, Ohio for over 14 years, until 1966.  She then supervised the accounting department at Toledo Beaver Tool and was later accountant-office manager for Amelia D., Inc., Toledo, Ohio.  She retired in 1980 as accountant for Briggs Construction Co., Perrysburg, Ohio.  Ms. Rothgeb was a telephone operator for the Grand Rapids Telephone Co. in 1936-37, then taught nursery school under the Works Progress Administration at Bowling Green State University until 1941.  She then was named deputy trreasurer of Wood County, a seat she held until 1952.  She had been a news reporter for over 60 years, most recently for The Sentinel-Tribune, The Blade and the Liberty Press.  Over the years, she also supplied news to the News Bee and the Times, both in Toledo, the Wood County Herald, the Whitehouse Standard and later Anthony Wayne Standard, the Findlay Corier, Northwest-Signal and Wood County Free Press.  "She gave the (Grand Rapids) community a lot of credit and publicity it may not have had otherwise," said June Huffman, co-editor of the Rapids Record.  Ms. Rothgeb also gave newscasts on former Bowling Green radio station WAWR-FM.  She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Grand Rapids, Ohio; the Wood County Pomona Grange, the Alva N. Sidle American Legion Unit 232; the Ohio and Wood County Historical Societies, the Ohio Geneaogy Social and was a charter member of the Grand Rapids Historical Society.  She was born April 4, 1918 to Arthur E. and Esther A. (Rigg) Rothgeb in the farm house where she lived all her life. The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Beaver Creek Cemetery.

5.  James T. Rigg or Truman James Rigg was born 31 July 1897 in Washington Township, Wood County, Ohio.
