***OBITUARY: Tuesday, January 29th 1884, The Wellsboro Agitator, Wellsboro, Tioga County, Pennsylvania - Brookfield dated January 25, 1884. Mr. Sylvester L. Plank, who
lived about 2 miles south of Potter Brook, in Westfield twp., died last Tuesday. His remains were brought to Sylvester yesterday and the funeral was held in the Baptist Church; Rev. S. L.
Bovier officiated. The burial was in the Plank bury ing ground by the side of those of his first wife, who died 17 years ago last November. Mr. Plank was born in Paris, Oneida County, New
York, October 11th 1838. Eleven years ago he purchased 30 acres of land in Westfield Township 2 miles south of Potter Brook Post office, where he continued to reside until his death. When he
arrived in this town, he went upon a new piece of land that was heavily timbered with hemlock and wood, and put up a log house and barn and went to clearing up his land. In time he had cleared
75 of his 86 acres of land, raising wheat and rye, oats, corn and potatoes among the stumps. He raised as many as 400 bushels of potatoes on an acre of this new land. He was a careful and
a thifty farmer. The Post office at Sylvester stands on the land that he cleared up. Not the least important of Mr. Plank's crops was his family of nine children. Six of these
children are still living and all but one of them have families.
