CHARLES E. RIGGS

Charles E. Riggs "Charlie" (Austin, Robert, George, Clement, Robert was born 15 October 1866.  He died 29 October 1932.

 

Charlie married Carrie Ada Darrow on 26 September 1888.  Carrie was born 31 March 1870 in Meredian Township, Ingham County, Michigan.  She died 6 April 1965 in Williamston, Ingham County, Michigan.

 

Charlie and Carrie had the following children:

 

Neva M. Riggs was born 6 February 1891 and died 20 May 1980 in Reed City, Osceola County, Michigan.

Clare Austin Riggs was born 25 October 1893 and died 2 January 1956.

This is a Charles E.  Riggs Family photo  -    Charles is sitting under the tree, Carrie is standing, Neva is in the horse buggy and Clare Riggs is standing -  The beautiful home is on the original property that Robert Rigg owned when he came to Alaiedon Township from Ohio in 1850.  The home was located on Every Road near the intersection of Every and Holt Roads, Alaiedon Township, Mason, Michigan.   Though the Riggs' family know longer owns the property, it still stands as of 2012.

Neva (Riggs) and M. Vernon Butler

 -- PRETTY HOME WEDDING  Bridal Couple will Reside on Farm in Wheatfield -- East Alaiedon January 5, Wednesday afternoon at one o'clock, Miss Neva Riggs and M. Vernon Butler of Wheatfield, were united in marriage at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Riggs of East Alaiedon, in the presence of about 50 invited guests.  The ceremony was performed by Rev. Arthur Camburn of Dansville.  The strains of Mendelssohn's wedding march were rendered by Miss Ina Butler of East Lansing, sister of the groom.  The wedding party consisting of the bride and groom with Miss Lydia Potts as bridesmaid and Clare Riggs as best man.  The wedding party took their places under an arch of green and white from which was suspended a large wedding bell. 
     The bride was gowned in white satin and carried white carnations; the bridesmaid wore blue silk.  After the ceremony and congratulations a very dainty lunch was served by the friends of the bride.  The happy young couple were the recipients of many beautiful and useful gifts.  They left at once for their future home at the Butler farm in Wheatfield, where they will be at home to their friends after January 15.

 

Neva and M. vernon Butler had one son: Theodore Butler.

Clare married (2) Leora Williams

Dorothy Alice Riggs was the daughter of Clare and Ida Palen Riggs.  She was born 20 July 1916 in Mason, Michigan.  She died 21 September 1997 in Elmira, Warner Township, Ostego County, Michigan and was buried 24 September 1997 in St. Thomas Cemetery, Elmira, Warner Township, Ostego County, Michigan.
